OUR OFFER: The paleontological site of Manzati, Barlad, Romania represents the locus tipicus for the Deinotherium giggantisimum species, discovered in 1890 by professor Grigore Ştefănescu and at present on display at the Grigore Antipa Natural Science Museum, in Bucharest. Resuming the research in 2001 led to professor Gabriel Milan Sava’s discovery in 2006 of a rhino’s skeleton, which is at present being reconstructed. We hope this camp will combine the paleontological research activity with the relaxation, trips, having fun and cultural exchange of the participants.
Our participants are invited to climbing and abseil paleontological research at a new activities must have appropriate equipment, as mentioned in the Camp Rules.
They will also be supervised by a trained mountain rescuer.
THE EXPERIENCE: A previous experience of participants in the field of paleontology is not necessary. They will receive all the necessary information at the opening of the camp. Of great importance to the success of your experience will be your willingness to work in a team atmosphere.
SCHEDULE: Besides the paleontological research, the schedule also contains: souvenir shopping, going out to discos, camp-fire, fishing, festive dinners, spare time for socializing and sightseeing, trip to Bucharest, sightseeing of the town and visits to the Palace of Parliament and “Grigore Antipa Natural History Museum”. This will be a rewarding and challenging experience that you will remember for the rest of your life. For more details: www.rotarybarlad.net
PARTICIPANT CRITERIA: 10 teenagers between 16 and 22 years of age, only one or two participants from each country.
PERIOD: July 21,2012 – July 30,2012
REGISTRATION FEE: A non-refundable payment of 250 $ must be sent to the club by May 30, 2012. The fees are to be paid by each applicant. Therefore, the only necessity is to take pocket money for Museums, or other fees. All fees are non-refundable except for cancellation due to medical reasons. DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: Applications should be sent to your country’s coordinator to reach us by 30 May 2012.
VISAS: Please check for all Visas and any other legal requirements. You are responsible for your documents required by your own countries and the Romanian Consulate for information on visits to Romania.
INSURANCE: The participants must be insured against illness, accident and third party damages according to Rotary International recommendations.
ARRIVAL IN ROMANIA: Plan your journey to arrive in Bucharest, Romania at “Henri Coanda” Airport between 09:00 hours and 19:00 hours on 21 July 2012.
DEPARTURE FROM ROMANIA: Arrange your journey to depart from the same place between 10:00 hours and 22:00 hours on 30 July 2012.
ACCOMMODATIONS: Accommodations during the Paleontological Research Camp 2012, Manzati, Barlad, ROMANIA, will be with Rotarian families and students’ hostel, according to the camp timetable and weather conditions.
